témavezetés leírása
In the past decades, the significance of continuous flow technologies has been on the rise. In fact, flow chemistry could be a potential future alternative of the batch processes in the pharmaceutical industry, as there are already numerous pieces of literature regarding this topic. However, there are almost no honourable mentions of continuous flow technologies in the scientific papers of agricultural chemistry. Therefore, in this research topic, we would like to extend flow chemistry solutions not only to the synthesis of APIs, but to pesticides as well. Furthermore, our aim is to produce biopesticides this way, as there is a great demand in agriculture to replace harmful pesticides.
In addition, cyclodextrins (CDs), as cyclic oligosaccharides will also be included in this research topic, which are able to receive various guest molecules into their truncated cone-shaped hydrophobic cavity. In terms of cyclodextrins, our interest is focused on the CD-complexation of biopesticides, which aggregates may be more beneficial than recently used pesticides. Our goal is also the chemical functionalization of CDs, so that a higher proportion of complexing and pesticide effects can be achieved.
Flow chemistry devices are quite expensive, therefore this research would also focus on cost-efficiency, so we are planning to print our own reactors and mixing elements by a 3D printer.
During the project, we are aiming to use in-line analytical methods such as in-line infrared spectroscopy to monitor the reactions in real time, and we would use high-performance techniques (GC-MS, LC-MS, HRMS, NMR, XRD analysis) to characterize the compounds synthesized.
