témavezetés leírása
Semiconductors, in bulk or structured form, are widely used in electronics and optics. In many cases, such as Gunn diodes and tunnel diodes, they are subject to strong quasistatic electric fields on the order of 100 kV/cm. Nonlinear terahertz (THz) spectroscopy, with pump pulses currently available at ELI-ALPS up to nearly 0.5 MV/cm electric field strength, enables to study the ultrafast charge carrier dynamics induced by the strong THz transient. The PhD student will join our team at ELI-ALPS to carry out THz pump-THz probe measurements with doped and undoped semiconductor materials. Part of the work is the analysis and interpretation of the measured data, as well as the contribution to some of the related user experiments. Depending on the availability of a THz source delivering pulses with >1 MV/cm peak electric field strength, the scope of investigations will be extended to extreme field conditions. Another class of materials gaining increasing importance in opto-electronics applications and strong-field THz technology is organic molecular crystals. The study of the THz nonlinear response of selected molecular materials is planned.
