témavezetés leírása
Hence the extensive usage of natural resources evokes the ecological problems on both input and output side, the driving forces and the strategic interventions can be discussed in a context which includes all human-nature interactions. Doing so, studies of socio-economic metabolism (SEM) focuses on exchange of material flows and stocks of energy, matter and information between the Nature and the society.
Material stocks provide services for the society like shelter, production, recreation, etc.; however, they also call for an enormous amount of construction and other materials along their whole life cycle, and so they are responsible for strong path-dependency of the socio-economic system. Consequently, the material stock constitute not only valuable service infrastructure for the society, but also a key driver for resource use, object of technological lock-in, and a challenging waste management problem in the future. Furthermore, construction materials are scarce as well; sand, for instance, became a basic resource with a limited supply and numerous harmful environmental impacts. For that end, the key role of material stocks, as infrastructures are recently emphasized with special regard to future emissions and resource use.
Recent call aims to assess and quantify the environmental impacts of urban material stock accumulation and its potentials as a future asset of resources with the methodological toolbar of the socio-economic metabolism (input-output analysis, material flow analysis). Several economic and social conditions influence the demand for construction materials intensely within the ecological burdens, as dwelling needs, demographic transition, real estate prices, availability of virgin resources, or climate policy measures. The candidate should model the opportunity of urban mining technology at multiple scale by the help of case studies, technology assessments, and macroeconomic models as well.
