Graph Theory is well know in Engineering as a powerful tool to represent complex systems and the interactions between their elementary components. During the last decades, some methods based on Graphs Theory have been applied to find a proper solution to problems in Engineering, and especially in Mechancal Engineering. Such applications contributed to the development of many issues, such as, for only representative examples, Mechanisms Topology and Classification, Kinematic Analysis, Static Force and Dynamic analysis, Plant Efficiency. In particular, the algorithms based on Graph Theory can be applied to any mechanical systems thanks to the correspondence graph-mechanism that has been introduced in the Seventies and developed in the Eighties until nowadays.

Kutatási célok:

Although the Graph Theory has been extensively applied to many issues in Mechanical Engineering, there are still many opportunities to develop new and useful contributions. In fact, the availability of new libraries in several programming luanguages, for either algebraic manipulation or matrix based, makes it easier to solve complex problems, such as, for example, the automatic representation of a kinematic chain or mechanisms starting from the corresponding graph, the construction of procedure for the static force and dynamic analysis, and so on.
