Poverty remains one of humanity's most persistent and perplexing socio-economic challenges, a fundamental obstacle to sustained growth and development across the globe In Sub-Saharan Africa, half its population endures extreme poverty, and a third grapples with hunger. The multidimensional face of Ethiopian poverty is particularly striking. The national Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) figure dramatically skewed by rural realities compared to urban areas. that demand a rigorous, multidimensional diagnostic. The research undertakes to dissect rural poverty in Ethiopia, employing both the nuanced lens of multidimensional analysis and the foundational bedrock of the Cost of Basic Needs (CBN)
approach.
The general objective of the study is to assess the status of rural poverty and its major determinants in the Central Ethiopia Region, a crucial pocket within Sub-Saharan Africa.
This research will employ an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. This approach begins with an initial qualitative phase of data collection and analysis, which then informs a subsequent phase of quantitative data collection and analysis. The final, critical step involves
integrating or linking the findings from both strands. The data collected will be crosssectional, capturing household information at a single point in time.
