description
The goal of software testing is the verfication of the correctness of new development and software changes, detection and localization of faults. We call these two activities (showing the presence of bugs and their localization) jointly fault diagnostics. Test suites are critical in terms of how much they can support these activites. In both areas, there exists a large body of research results, but similar problems occur in other areas besides software engineering. This includes, for instance, hardware testing, testing control systems, network diagnistics, etc. However, these methods have not yet been extensively investigated in the context of software faults and software test suites. Furthermore, existing solutions take into account only the properties of the tests themselves and ignore other available information such as the source code, versioning ifnormation, fault data, etc.
The goal of the research is to investigate the applicability of fault
diagnostic solutions from other areas in the context of software testing.
