"Disaster education is most effective when it engages participants actively and addresses all phases of the crisis cycle, including preparedness, response, and recovery. Traditional educational methods, while valuable, often struggle to maintain engagement, adapt to diverse learning needs, or simulate real-world decision-making under stress. Game-based learning and gamified applications offer innovative solutions by providing immersive, interactive, and scenario-driven experiences that enhance knowledge retention, decision-making skills, and behavioral adaptation.

This PhD research will investigate the development and evaluation of game-based applications for disaster education. The study will explore how serious games, mobile apps, or virtual simulations can be designed to educate different populations, including vulnerable groups, about preparedness, response strategies, and recovery processes. Key research questions include: How do game-based interventions impact learning outcomes and behavioral change compared to conventional training? What design elements maximize engagement, cultural relevance, and adaptability to different crisis contexts? How can these applications support multi-stakeholder coordination in real-world scenarios?

Using mixed methods, including experimental evaluations, user experience studies, and participatory design approaches, the research will generate evidence-based guidelines for developing effective, inclusive, and culturally sensitive disaster education games. The outcomes will provide practical tools for educators, humanitarian organizations, and policymakers seeking to leverage digital innovation to strengthen community resilience across all stages of disasters. "
