Description of the research topic:
Evaluating the economic, social, and environmental effects of tourism is crucial for ensuring that tourism fosters sustainable development in a destination. This research aims to thoroughly assess the present effects of tourism in a selected destination, considering economic, social, and environmental variables, and to create strategies for sustainable tourism development accordingly.
Tourism, as a major economic sector, generates not only economic advantages but also considerable social, environmental, and cultural effects. The impacts may be beneficial, including job creation, economic stimulation, cultural heritage preservation, and enhancement of the destination’s image. Nonetheless, negative consequences may arise, including pollution, loss of natural resources, alterations in the lifestyles of local residents, distortion of cultural values, and inequitable distribution of tourism earnings.
The main objective of the research is to investigate the complex effects of tourism in the examined destination. This may encompass an examination of economic effects (e.g., tourism revenues, employment, investment), social effects (e.g., quality of life for local communities, preservation of cultural values, attitudes towards tourism), environmental effects (e.g., utilisation of natural resources, pollution, biodiversity), and cultural effects (e.g., preserving cultural heritage, preservation of cultural identity).
Alongside the effect evaluation, the research can also delineate the strengths, weaknesses, possibilities, and threats of the site. This will enhance the destination''s competitiveness and appeal while identifying pathways for sustainable development.
The research should focus on tourist satisfaction and travel preferences, as they are essential for the effective development of the location. The creation of novel tourism products and services, along with the alignment of tourism development with local community interests, should also be taken into account.
