This research aims to provide a principled analysis of various argument structure phenomena in different languages in the framework of generative grammar. In general terms, different ways to derive argument structure properties from event structure properties are explored. More specific goals are to derive verbs within transitivity alternations such as the causative-inchoative alternation and the object-drop alternation, but other argument realization patterns are also encouraged to be examined in a single language or cross-linguistically.
