An important criteria for each step of drug discovery is the pharmacokinetic characterization of the active ingredients. Related to this area, the Biomimetic Technologies Research Group (BTRG) focuses on modeling early-stage drug absorption and metabolism. Drug absorption is performed using in vitro solubility and dissolution as well as permeability studies, while metabolism is performed using liver microsome and biomimetic metalloporphyrin-based oxidation models. The focus of the research group is on the general intestinal absorption and blood-brain barrier, and as a new area, ophthalmic entry gates. In connection with this, we started joint research projects with Waters Research Center to perform high-resolution mass spectrometry on high-permeability 96-well measuring plates and tissue samples of each pharmacokinetically relevant in vitro medium or ex vivo tissue sample.
The PhD research topic, in cooperation with the industrial partner focuses on the preparation of microsomal, liver, eye, brain, kidney and other tissue samples, performation of HTS HR-MS analysis and evaluation and conclusion of the results. The research project can also be applied as a Cooperative Doctoral Program.
