Translational agriculture: from laboratory data on crop responses to salt stress towards crop production in salt affected lands

This project will focus on analyzing existing literature data on how salt stress affects crop growth and productivity. Based on data from global saline agricultural practices, we will work toward co-developing and formulating guidelines for farmers working on salt-affected agricultural lands, as well as policy briefs for local decision makers. Additionally, a large part of the work will involve collecting further experimental data on the salt stress response of selected relevant halophytes or salt-tolerant crops and cultivars using methods available and widely used in our laboratory. These methods include structural analyses (light microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, small-angle neutron scattering); omics studies (e.g., proteomics of plastid inner membranes); and physiological analyses (measurements of photosynthetic activity, chlorophyll content, etc.).

MSc degree in biology or a related topic; experience in plant biology (physiology, anatomy, cell biology) and light- and/or electron microscopy is an advantage
