"The Ectopic Mineralization Laboratory, just five minutes from the ELTE campus, studies ectopic mineralization—the abnormal buildup of calcium crystals in soft tissues. This process plays a major role in several rare genetic disorders as well as common diseases like atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Despite its serious impact, there are currently no effective treatments.
Our goal is to understand how and why ectopic mineralization happens and to develop ways to prevent or reverse it. We use a mix of cell and molecular biology methods, animal models, and clinical collaborations to uncover key molecular pathways and test potential therapies."
