Scientific problem*
Our country is particularly exposed to the extremes of water management. Water surpluses and water shortages often occur in the same area in the same year. Domestic water management is facility-oriented, adapted to a series of historically inherited conditions, which is characterised by inflexibility. Our drainage and water supply systems are currently unable to meet climate change adaptation requirements and land use needs. Undeniably changing weather conditions call for a rethink the whole water management. The drainage-centric principle of seasonal surpluses must also be changed in practice, as these water resources are lacking in the water system concerned, the adverse effects of which have already been experienced. In preparation for periods of water scarcity, all possible means of regional water retention must be explored.

Research objectives:
- research of innovative water management methods
- exploring regional water retention options
- investigating the technical feasibility and impacts of regional water transfers
- developing dynamic water resource management practices
- development of drainage practices
- wetland development opportunities and their impact on climatic conditions
- research of water-saving water utilization techniques

New scientific result to be achieved:
- dynamic water resource management methods
- water management practices and solutions to support water retention
- climatic effects of wetlands
- green and blue infrastructure development practices and their impacts
- the use of remote sensing data in water resources management
