description
This project focuses on the investigation of the
neuronal network dynamics and connectivity of the striatum, with
special attention to the processing of environmental inputs. The experiments are performed on freely moving and anesthetized rodent
models, where the activity of thousands of individual neurons andtheir gross, network-level population activity is simultan eouslyrecorded, while the sensory inputs are varied. The activity of selected brain regions and neuronal classes are controlled using
electrical, optogenetic or pharmacological perturbations. The general principles of information processing and internal dynamics of the
neuronal networks are studied by the high-throughput processing of the acquired multidimensional data, by using cutting edge analytical methods. The overall aim of this project is to reveal how does the brain integrate the various representations of the environment intodecision making and memory processes.
