Within the frame of this PhD project proposal, we aim at screening departmental yeast strain collections for possible antagonistic effects against well-characterized mycotoxin-producer Fusarium, Penicillium and Aspergillus spp. Furthermore, mycotoxin tolerance of the yeasts will also be tested against the most frequently detected mycotoxins produced by the same Fusarium, Penicillium and Aspergillus spp. Yeast strains with good antagonistic and/or good mycotoxin tolerance properties will be selected for further mechanism of action studies and their possible applications in plant protection as well as in feed and food preservation technologies will be considered.
