description
Many parts and parameters of road design guidelines (e.g. curvature, superelevation and sight distances) are based either on vehicle dynamics and/or on human capabilities (e.g. reaction time). Automated vehicles are coming soon to our roads. Even though they will coexist with traditional ones for a longer period, thinking about potential savings in road space, required sight distances etc. has started. The research should start with an overview of recent changes in road geometric design guidelines in various countries. The main part would be the analysis of possibilities to adapt new and/or changed geometric design rules.
