description
The neocortical and hippocampal oscillatory processes
are investigated in this project, using large-scale in vivo electrophysiological methods. We set out to gain a deeper
understanding on how the synchronized activity of the neurons of
various brain regions establish the generation of healthy and diseased
brain rhythms. We aim to find new targets, which are suitable forbeing targeted using oscillatory interference in order to improve or treat healthy or pathologic brain functions. The experiments areperformed on freely moving and anesthetized rodent models, where the
activity of thousands of individual neurons and their gross, network-level population activity is simultaneously recorded, while the sensory inputs are varied. The activity of selected brain regions and neuronal classes are controlled using electrical, optogenetic or pharmacological perturbations.
