A kutatási téma leírása:
Enchytraeidae is a significant family of phylum Annelida (contains 30 genera, approximately 700 species). Their importance is in their saprophagous lifestyle and in the fact that they are often present in high density, furthermore, they occur in all continents and in almost every habitat from tropical to polar ecosystems, from marine systems to glacier-covered mountains. In their taxonomy and systematics molecular biological studies have special importance to retrieve the relationships among genera and species.
The aim of the PhD research is to apply molecular methods (comparative sequence analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I CO1 gene, the nuclear histon 3 H3 gene and the nuclear ribosomal ITS region) in the case of selected similar species to answer the following questions: could the variability of morphological features be used as intraspecific or interspecific character in the discrimination of species, which taxa are synonymous, and furthermore, to revise species-complexes, to describe new species and to discover cryptic speciations.
