Description of the research topic:
Despite the fact that the dissolved organic matter (DOM) fraction accounts for only a few percent of the total organic matter in soils, it is still the most dynamically changing organic fraction and the most responsive to environmental changes. As a consequence, it can be used as an indicator of changes in soil quality and damage to ecological functions.
In this study, 50 to 60 soil samples from different locations are going to be analysed, selected to show a wide variation in land use, vegetation and physico-chemical parameters. After isolation of DOM fractions, quantitative and qualitative parameters will be determined by UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The analysis of the data not only reveals how environmental factors (land use, vegetation, pH, ionic strength, etc.) affect the quantity and quality of the DOM fraction, but also provides an opportunity to construct a
