Description of the research topic:

Nowadays, data from various remote sensing techniques are applied more and more widely in both technical and human sciences. The major aim of the research is the integration of modern remote sensing processes in large and topographic scaled geographic information systems, basically for archaeological and military historical purposes. Furthermore, developing and investigating of quality models related to spatial and temporal data integration, with particular regard to surface objects and related events. Carry out a process based on the fusion of GIS data and to determine the indices of the process and the quality of the data used, and prove its usability through practical research tasks are also the parts of the research topic. It is also needed to implement the integrated GIS system into heritage management process, and to handle and visualize spatiotemporal data.
The research plan needs to be compiled according to the following major aspects:

1. Processing the relevant literature in the field of modern remote sensing procedures, in particular their use for archaeological and heritage management purposes,
2. Develop a methodology that is suitable for creating an integrated GIS data system in accordance with the quality requirements of archaeological and historical uses. Considering the task-specific data storage, data management and display demands,
3. Develop a qualification process for assessing the applicability of different remote sensing data acquisition technologies to a particular task
4. Develop a qualification process for the results, considering the further archaeological and heritage management uses,
5. Investigate and evaluate the resource requirements of both data acquisition and data processing (hardware, software, work time, calculation time, expertise)

During the research, cooperation with other faculties of BME, other departments of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the industrial partners of the Department of Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics can be realized. The data acquisition devices necessary for the investigation, the infrastructure and software required for data processing are provided by the Department and its industrial partners.
