Description of the research topic:
Value-based healthcare is one of the most important issues in the transformation needs of an increasingly demanding healthcare system. Value-based health care thinking is based on the work of Harvard University Professor Michael E. Porter, with a focus on the economy and its development. No health system should be allowed to finance all possible services. However, we have to face the fact that, as the economy develops, the population is increasingly demanding better health and modern health services that are more widely available. However, better informed patients, an ageing population, new diseases, modern lifestyles and advances in technology mean increasing costs for health care and the systems that maintain/fund them. Under the principle of diminishing returns, there comes a point in health care when increased resources no longer bring additional health benefits, while the principle of indeterminate harm determines how harm increases despite increased resources. When these two effects are taken together, it is possible to predict health gains - the difference between benefit and harm at any level of resource. Thus, the health gain curve is a hump-shaped curve, where the amount of resource that provides the maximum health gain can be determined and where the value is maximum. However, value means different things to funders, patients, doctors, managers and industry, as each actor has its own perspective, which cannot be ignored in the economic relationship. The aim of this research is to explore the interdependence between the economy, its development and the health sector's provision of care, taking into account a value-based approach.
