Description of the research topic:

The effect of combat sports and martial arts on personality in public education and sport

During athlete personality assessments, research seeks to answer whether there are psychological differences and, if so, what the differences are between individuals practicing different sports (and non-athletes) in terms of personality. The primary objective is to objectively demonstrate differences in various personality traits among individuals practicing different sports and forms of physical activity, compared to non-athletic control groups, using objective measuring tools. It is crucial to determine what sport an athlete practices (type of physical activity), for how long (sport and training experience), at what level and with what goals, and whether they compete or measure themselves in any form within their sport. The question is whether there is a detectable difference in personality traits, whether between individual and team sport athletes or based on the tactical categorization of sports (cyclic, random, paired combat sports, sport games). In the case of combat sports and martial arts, this is particularly significant as common belief often negatively evaluates the impact of these forms of physical activity on personality. It is questioned whether there are sets of characteristics (dispositions, personality traits) that collectively, by reinforcing each other, appear among practitioners of a given sport. It is also interesting to examine whether correlations can be detected between traits measurable in sports and those in situations outside of sports (everyday life), such as the correlation between assertiveness in sports and assertiveness displayed in everyday life, or whether certain traits can be positively influenced by the personality-developing effects of sports (e.g., aggression and assertiveness).
