Description of the research topic:
One of the key issues of the religious history of the Neo Assyrian Empire is the rituals connected to the Assyrian monarchs, hence the trustee of the communication between the imperial gods and the people of the country was the king himself. However, for the interpretation of the different kinds of texts (ritual tablets, prayers, incantations, divinatory, and administrative texts) and pictorial representations (palace reliefs, seal impressions, statues) connected to these rituals, we need to reconstruct the ideological background of the royal persona and the institution of kingship in ancient Assyria as well.
