Description of the research topic:
Oedema is a consequence of fluid accumulation within the interstitial space. Direction of fluid flow between the interstitial and intravascular space is determined by hydrostatic and oncotic pressure gradients. Imbalance can be resulted from local or systemic factors which can provoke increase in capillary hydrostatic pressure, plasma volume, capillary pemeability, or decrease in oncotic pressure. Oedema causes complaints and impairs life-quality; severe disease could be in the background. Permanent oedema could be infected and hinder would healing. Compresion elastic bandage can reduce oedema efficiently, but it could decrease arterial circulation. In this study the effect of compression elastic bandage on limb circulation is examined in patients with lymphatic oedema, chronic venous insufficiency, diabetes mellitus and peripheral artery disease.
