Studying lithospheric-scale CO2 degassing: bettr understanding of the geologic CO2 flux in a natural emission site (Balaton-highland)

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest
earth sciences
Doctoral School of Earth Sciences

Thesis supervisor: Márta Berkesi
Location of studies (in Hungarian): ELTE TTK Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences and ELKH Institute of Earth Physics and Space Science
Abbreviation of location of studies: ELTE

Description of the research topic:

"We welcome applications from students who would like to participate in the work of the MTA-FI FluidByDepth Lendület research group, where we strive for excellence in research with the cooperation of young and senior researchers. Webpage: fluidsbydepth.epss.hu; Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100084520572524.
The major goal of the FluidsByDepth Lendület Research Group is to describe fluid generations along the lithosphere on the basis of fluid inclusion-based research on xenoliths in Central Pannonian Basin, moreover, our major planned achievement is to unravel the details of CO2-rich fluid transport from the deep to the atmosphere.
The participating student can be involved in fieldwork and rock sampling, fluid inclusion/soil gas studies, and/or being part of geochemical (thermodynamic calculation) and geophysical modeling (numeric modeling).
"

Required language skills: English
Further requirements:
knowledge of petrology/geochemistry/geophysics is preferred, but not mandatory.

Number of students who can be accepted: 3

Deadline for application: 2023-05-31
