Description of the research topic:

In UGI surgery, especially where an oesophageal anastomosis is performed, the postoperative morbidity and mortality is still high. In these cases the recently recommendation in Hungary is 5 to 7 days of nil by mouth postoperatively. At the same time Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs widespread worldwide in all field of gastrointestinal surgery where the early oral food intake is very important step. In our investigation, we would like perform a meta-analysis from the literature, where we analyse the advantages and disadvantages of early enteral feeding after esophageal surgery. A multicentre, national study is also planned, where the efficiency and advantages of early enteral feeding would be analysed in patients with esophageal resections and total gastrectomies. In the same group we would like to investigate the efficiency of a new, complex perioperative protocol (perioperative feeding, physical pre- and post-conditionally) constructed by us involving dietitians and physiotherapists (survival, postoperative morbidity and mortality, cost efficiency, etc).
