Description of the research topic:

Cell-to-cell communication can take place in the form of phospholipid-enveloped extracellular vesicles (EVs). Proteins, miRNAs, and mRNAs involved in cell-to-cell communication are selectively packaged into the EVs. Different RNA species can directly or indirectly influence the gene expression pattern in acceptor cells and determine the direction of cellular differentiation. The aim of our study is to identify factors and mechanisms involved in the selective packaging (so-called sorting) of EV RNAs. We also investigate the molecular targets of the EV RNAs in the acceptor cells, and reveal how they affect the cellular course of the disease and the healing process.
