Cancer cell invasion into the surrounding tissue and formation of distal tumors, the process of metastasis is one of the major reasons of human death. Metastasis is a complex and multistep process which is facilitated by lipids acting as a source of energy or mediators of signaling https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-04075-0, https://www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/48101/title/Lipids-Take-the-Lead-in-Metastasis/. As tumors are dependent on lipids antitumor lipids, and in turn lipid-based therapeutic approaches could be revealed. In this project we aim to unravel lipids that are capable of counteracting tumor progression, in particular invasion. In vitro 3D spheroid invasion or in vivo mouse experiments are applied along with examining human pathological samples. Modern imaging techniques are also used to uncover mechaninsm of action and modes of therapeutic application.
