Description of the research topic:

Over the last decade, the advancement of technology has enabled the recording of unprecedented amounts and quality of data using electronic and IT tools. This process has had an impact on every discipline, however the amount of information obtained from biological systems has increased dramatically. The brain - whether animal or human - is an inexhaustible source of research that seeks to understand functional properties by systematizing and understanding the observed and recorded information. Nowadays, the recording of bioelectric signals from the central nervous system is less challenging than the efficient processing of the resulting data mass, discovery of connections, understanding and describing functional mechanisms. Therefore, newer and more sophisticated mathematical and information technological methods must be used so that the large amount of data can not only be processed efficiently, but we can also discover new layers of hidden, but important knowledge that are unknown to date. The complexity of the relationship between brain signals and mechanisms requires a multidisciplinary vision that can simultaneously understand the biological characteristics and the information theory describing them as discrete signals. The aim of the project is to investigate brain electrophysiological phenomena with classical, state-of-the-art and experimental analytical, processing and computational methods, data mining techniques and visualization solutions for a better understanding of brain functions.
