Description of the research topic:

Type 1 and 2A protein phosphatases are crucial for the regulation of key cellular events in eukaryotes. This involves regulation of signal transduction important in the development of multicellular organisms. Many aspects are not fully understood in plants. We use mainly the model plant Arabidopsis for our research work. We focus on the following: (1) involvement of PP1 and PP2A in the regulation of plant cell cycle with emphasis on mitotic microtubule and chromatin organization; (2) regulation of intracellular dynamics with focus on ER and plastids important for integrated plant cell functioning; (3) the relationship between protein phosphatases and oxidative stress. These topics are important both in basic research and have practical applications for crop improvement.
