Description of the research topic:
Dramatically changing environmental and climatic conditions, geopolitical and social restructurings as external threats pose a serious challenge to architects, civil engineers, and urbanists. The effects of a disastrous event exceed rather frequently those values prescribed for the external hazards by the design standards. Adaptation to these extremities is necessary, and the designers should ensure that the buildings provide adequate protection and do not become a source of secondary dangers. This requires an understanding of the nature of the hazards, the characterization of the hazard, as well as developments and application of adequate architectural solutions.
