Description of the research topic:
The PhD student task will be to dissect the role of assemblysomes (a newly discovered cellular component) in DNA damage response using the model Drosophila melanogaster.
The wing developement of Drosophila melanogaster is an excellent system to study double-strand DNA breaks and point mutations by following alleles that gives rise to different hair growing phenotypes in the wings. Mutant alleles of genes that have been previously identified (by our research team in the past three years by high throughput genomic and proteomic screening methods in yeast and human tumor cell lines) in connection with the developement of assembylsomes, could be easily introduced into this system. The Drosophila melanogaster model system is simple, fast, and cheap, providing the opportunity to complete at least two publications during the candidate period even with our existing resources.
