Description of the research topic:
Endoscopy has an esserntial role in the identification and histological verification of upper gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary malignancies. Endoscopic ultrasound could determine most accurately the local extension of cancer and the lymph node metastases. These tumors are often diagnosed in an advanced stage, when the surgical resection of cancer could not be performed. Therefore, the aims of this study are:
1. To determine the efficacy of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and EUS-guided fine needle aspiration in the diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary malignancies.
2. To assess the efficacy of endoscopic palliative interventions such as self expandable metal stent implantation in the management of malignant esophageal obstruction; cost-effectiveness of endoscopic stanting in the management of malignant biliary obstruction; efficacy of EUS-guided tumor ablation
