Description of the research topic:
The aim of this research is to design and produce polyurethane foams that are not made from conventional polyols but from ionic liquids. In the first step, ionic liquid (IL) systems capable of replacing different polyols are investigated by theoretical methods. Ionic liquids will contain biomolecules (e.g. sugars) and choline chloride. Based on the theoretical results, the most promising ILs will be prepared and used in the synthesis of polyurethanes. The synthesized polymers will be characterized and compared to properly chosen reference systems
