Description of the research topic:

The members of the LOB-domain (Lateral Organ Boundary) protein family are leucine zipper-type transcription factors specific to higher plants. They have a broad but largely unexplored role in the regulation of body-architecture and development of higher plants. Preliminary results suggest that their function is fundamentally influenced by their phosphorylation state, in which serine-threonine kinases may play a role. The aim of this work is to explore and model how the phosphorylation state of LOB domain transcription factors may alter their three dimensional structure, the spatial relationships of their individual domains and their possible interactions with DNA or other proteins.
