Description of the research topic:
This PhD topic aims to assess the effects of climate change on viticulture and adaptation methods. For this purpose, regional climate model simulations for South Africa will be used (i) to explore the effects of climate change on vine grape production under various optimistic and pessimistic scenarios of the 21st century, (ii) to analyze possible adaptation and mitigation strategies, (iii) to determine how viniculture itself contributes to climate change. In addition, similar results for the Carpathian basin will be compared to the South African conditions, thus, clarify how viniculture in coastal and inland countries will be affected by global climate change. The specification of the PhD study is finalized together with the applicant.
