Description of the research topic:
Small, cysteine-rich, plant defensin-like antifungal proteins expressed by ascomycetes constitute a feasible basis for the development of novel antifungal molecules. Therefore, deep understanding of structure-activity relationships of such proteins are of high importance. Our investigations include isolation of wild-type proteins, their homologous and heterologous expression, in vitro testing for antifungal activity and the investigation of three dimensional molecular structure utilizing experimental (ECD, NMR) and in silico methods.
