The objective of this research is to analyse sustainability aspirations of tourism businesses by examining domestic and international practices. In addition to the green programs of large hotels, sustainability issues in SME sector of tourism are also becoming more prominent. Small and medium-sized enterprises play an important role in development of quality tourism in Hungary, without which eco-conscious thinking and responsible tourism cannot exist. In fact, SMEs almost completely cover Hungary’s tourism market.
The major research questions are how to diversify demand, how to build quality tourism, how to take into account satisfaction of the local population and guests, how to retain employees, how to win Y and Z generations in further development of small and medium-sized enterprises. Great emphasis will be laid on analysis of environmentally conscious behaviour, the sustainable development of wealth and cost management, research and development of SME sector, its investment activities the analysis of tenders. An important dimension of the research is to identify the position of internationally leading SMEs and to compare their market operation with domestic ones.
Content Knowledge: The research outlines new perspectives for businesses, presenting future development of tourism industry. It addresses the issue of economic, social, environmental and psychological sustainability of tourism SME sector. The research suggests that small and medium-sized tourism businesses need to operate more responsibly, securely and digitally in order to remain competitive.
Skills: situation assessment, strategic planning, synthesizing ability, creative-critical thinking, ability to recognize new possibilities, rational argumentation, analysis and problem solving following ethical research protocols.

Expected outcomes: Participation in international conferences, quality articles for both national and international journals, original findings for publication, ability to critically apply theories, methodologies, and empirical studies.
