Description of the research topic:

Kālidāsa is perhaps one of the greatest and most influential authors of classical Indian literature, many commentaries were written on his lyric, dramatic and epic works from the tenth to the twentieth century everywhere in South Asia. Many of these commentaries are still unedited and unpublished, accessible only in manuscript copies, therefore their study requires significant philological and text-critical work. Even the study of the published commentaries is still at an infant stage, yet this work is necessary to form a picture of the transmission of Kālidāsa’s works, their changing interpretations and their reception in the mediaeval and early modern period.
