Description of the research topic:
One of the main problems today is the handling, storage and disposal of agricultural and industrial by-products. The utilization of them in the manufacturing process of building materials can be an excellent solution. There are still many examples about the use of agricultural or industrial by-products in building construction (e.g., fly ash, wood waste, recycled glass, straw), but there are still plenty of materials whose recyclability is notsufficiently resolved. In Hungary, corn stalk, corn cob, sunflower stalk, or various plastic wastes (e.g., PET bottles) represent the highest recycling potential. A doctoral research, based on laboratoty test of material properties, can highlight and discover the application possibilities of a selected by-product (e.g., as a concrete admixture, as a thermal insulation product or as an in-fill masonry element).
