Description of the research topic:

Near critical and supercritical fluids are applied already for various processes in industrial scales, and a wide range of possible future applications were already demonstrated in the laboratories. However, modelling and process simulation of the near-critical and supercritical systems is not entirely understood and available. The research topic aims to support simulation developments by supplying suitable phase equilibrium data. The PhD fellow will develop methods fulfilling these needs, including measuring the phase equilibrium and solubility properties as a function of the pressure, temperature and average composition in liquid and supercritical carbon dioxide. Besides cloud point measurements high pressure multicomponent solid-liquid equilibrium studies are also planned, especially for systems involving chiral molecules. The PhD fellow will participate in the equipment and measurement method development and in the modelling and validation of the results (estimation of missing parameters (e.g. critical temperature and pressure of the compounds), selection of promising EOSs, calculation binary interaction parameters and verifying the calculated phase equilibrium data experimentally).
