Description of the research topic:
During Drosophila germ cell formation we are able to investigate the function of centrosomes, basal body, mitochondria and cilia formation but also suitable to investigate the composition of protein complexes, such as proteasomes. In Drosophila we are able to follow the dynamic changes, regulation of organelle assembly, and their functions during sperm development. The diversity of microtubule-organizing centers (MTOC) in terms of their compositions, subcellular localizations, the mechanisms of microtubule assembly, and the biological functions they support are beginning to come into focus in recent years. In the project, we aim to reveal the molecular composition and function of testis-specific MTOCs, its interacting proteins and also the subcellular localization of them in post-meiotic stages. Based on our published and preliminary data we aim to study the composition, distribution and potential interacting partners of spermatoproteasome in Drosophila. Hence, the molecular and cellular mechanisms uncovered by the study of Drosophila spermiogenesis will enhance our understanding of similar processes crucial to cellular remodeling and human male fertility.
