Description of the research topic:

Gestational obesity means an increasing challenge for the clinicians. The number of those women, who are already obese before pregnancy (not only during pregnancy) is gradually increased. The effects of obesity-produced adipokines on uterine contractions are barely known, however, the clinical experiences show, that gestational obesity alters the gestational period. Mostly it increases the risk of post-term birth, but some data suggest that it can induce even preterm delivery. In this research topic the in vitro and in vivo uterine effects of adipokines (e.g. leptin, adiponectin) and partial adipokines (e.g. kisspeptin) are investigated in an obese pregnant rat model. The receptor and expression modifications of the adipokines are also measured as a function of contractions. Targets are searched for the prevention and treatment of adipokines-induced alterations.
