Description of the research topic:
The course reviews the tipical way of modernization regarding the relationship between the churches and the state focusing on the area of the Western Christianity (England, USA, France, Germany/Austria). It presents the connection between the modernization of the civil state and the freedom of thought and religion in the Hungarian political culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. Furthermore, it deals with the specific question of Hungarian modernization in point of the church affairs, concerning particularly three fields: the so called state ecclesiastical law, the issue of ecclesiastical autonomy and the legal support and practical emergence of the denominational equailty.
