Description of the research topic:

Our primary goal is to estimate the impairment/influence, intoxication, lethal blood concentrations of new designer drugs/new psychoactive substances (NPS). Influence can be measured from samples from motor vehicle drivers, intoxication by analysis of blood samples from hospital patients, and lethal levels from samples obtained from autopsies performed at our institute. The the blood concentration and the nature of the symptoms observed at the time of detection / acquisition provides insight into the symptomology of the substance, while the half-life gives new information about the metabolisation and elimination of NPS. The results can be used both in treatment of intoxicated patients and plays an important role in criminological practice.
