Description of the research topic:
Congenital heart defect (CHD) is the most common birth defect, affecting approximately 8–10 infants for every 1000 live births. Symptoms of CHD may vary from mild to life-threatening, but any form of the disease can have tremendous effects on life quality. CHD is a multifactorial disorder: both genetic and environmental factors may contribute to the development of the disease. New technologies in molecular genetics may contribute to the better understanding of the cause of CHDs.
