helyszín rövidítés: EGR

A kutatási téma leírása:

a.) Antecedents:

During the last few decades, power generation from low-temperature heat sources like thermal solar, geothermal, biomass or waste heat has been becoming more and more significant. Since in the traditional Rankine cycle the water used as working fluid it cannot operate with good efficiency at low temperatures. The ORC (organic Rankine cycle) is considered as a proper method for utilization of low temperature heat sources and there are various configuration and use of different working fluids. In case of find the optimal solution there might be several options for the cycle formation, for the working fluid and for the expansion machine design.

b.) Aim of research:

On the base of the ongoing research at the department develop and design suitable models for converting low temperature heat source into electricity by analyzing various energy conversion systems and working fluids in order to identity relevant parameters that can help to optimize the performance of such systems as well as select appropriate working fluids and expansion machine.

c.) Tasks, main items, necessary time:

- Review of the literature (6 months)
- Study and classification of low temperature heat sources based on temperature, source and quality, as well as analysis of thermodynamic cycles focusing on the expansion techniques (6 months)
- Classification, and analysis of various working fluids and expansion machines based on cost, safety, performance and environmental factors (12 months)
- Conceptualization, design, development and optimization of the applicable energy cycle, the selected working fluid and expansion machine (12 months)
- Writing of the thesis (12 months)

Tasks can be completed parallel.

d.) Required equipment:
Computer, access to literature and databases, mathematical/simulation software
e.) Expected scientific results:
Developing novel methods to optimize the cycles for various resources
Developing the description of real expansion processes that happens in the expansion machines
Developing the determination methods and design rules for the proper (optimal) construction of the expansion machines applied in ORC
Publishing 3-5 papers in the international journals with high impact factors, as well as to contribute several posters and/or oral presentations on at least 2-3 different scientific conferences
