Description of the research topic:
For accurate dimensioning of telecommunication systems it is essential to properly describe the traffic processes (like packet streams of various traffic components) of the system. One possible way of traffic description is the application of well defined mathematical models (e.g. Markov arrival processes (MAPs) and its variants). The goal of the research is to develop efficient fitting methods for approximating traffic sources with MAPs.
