Vulnerability Analysis of IPv6 Transition Technologies

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Budapest University of Technology and Economics
computer sciences
Doctoral School of Informatics

Thesis supervisor: Gábor Lencse
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Department of Networked Systems and Services
Abbreviation of location of studies: HIT

Description of the research topic:

IETF has standardized a high number of IPv6 transition technologies, which enable communication in various scenarios despite the incompatibility of IPv4 and IPv6 [1]. They involve several security vulnerabilities, too. We have developed a methodology, which can be used to discover the security vulnerabilities of the different IPv6 transition technologies and their most important implementations efficiently [2].
The applicant should reconsider the selection the most important IPv6 transition technologies in [1] and apply the above mentioned methodology for the identification of the potential security issues of the selected technologies. The vulnerabilities of the most important free software implementations should also be checked and mitigations should be recommended.
