Description of the research topic:

During the last decade, ’animal personality research’ became of the hottest topics in behavioural ecology. Animal personality means consistent between-individual differences in behaviour along time or across different ecological contexts. In the typical approach ’personality’ is seen as the individual mean behaviour (i.e. how aggressive an individual is). However, within-individual behavioural variation also gained attention recently. There are two main within-individual behavioural components: 1) behavioural plasticity (i.e. individual changes its aggression in different contexts) and 2) behavioural predictability (i.e. individual variation in aggression in a single context). The aim of the project is to understand the ecological and evolutionary background of behavioural plasticity and predictability. There is possibility to study different model species and to conduct experiments in the field or in lab.
